My Grandfather ran a huckster wagon for a couple of decades when I was growing up. Unlike some of the early open sided versions, this was a five-ton straight truck, the interior fitted out with a refrigerator, a freezer, various canned goods, a tank for kerosene, and grocery items plus candy for the kids. He had a bi-weekly route. driving the backroads of West Virginia where folks only "came to town" once a month, if need be. I made many trips with him in the summers and during Christmas break. He once pulled a tooth from a mountaineer in pain and sometime bartered kerosene for eggs. In the morning he would put a slab of baloney or hotdogs wrapped in aluminum foil on the engine block. That way we had a warm lunch.
